The Bills are adding another runner to their already stocked backfield.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that the Philadelphia Eagles traded backup running back Bryce Brown to Buffalo for a conditional pick in next year's draft.
The Bills later confirmed the trade, adding that the two teams swapped seventh-round draft picks for this year and the Eagles got a future undisclosed draft pick.
Long-rumored to be on the trading block, Brown joins a Bills rotation that already features C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson. Rapoport was told the deal won't impact the 33-year-old Jackson's place on the roster. The veteran still has a future with the team, with Buffalo seeing the addition of Brown as a depth move.
The swap makes plenty of sense for the Eagles, who get value for a player who wasn't about to see much action behind LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles in Chip Kelly's run-heavy offense. The Eagles coach sees more in the young Chris Polk as a third option in Philly.
If the Bills can tap into Brown's upside, this backfield is going to be a headache for opponents in 2014.
