Browns might add David Carr if they draft Derek Carr

The Browns continue to pine over past-their-prime signal-callers.

Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer spoke with David Carr on Thursday, who told the newspaper that Cleveland is one of six teams that have reached out about adding him to their roster.

The team's interest in the 34-year-old Carr is tied to the potential of drafting his brother Derek, the Fresno State quarterback who looms as a first-round target for general manager Ray Farmer.

"Their guy is Derek Carr," NFL Media's Daniel Jeremiah told "The Dan Patrick Show" in February. "They're going to take a different player with the fourth pick and they want to take Derek Carr with their second one (at No. 26)."

David said: "I know quarterbacks and I know veteran guys come in a lot of times and they don't want the young guy to play. They're going to be a teammate, but are they going to go to that next level to make sure this kid really succeeds? I can guarantee you that's the case with us."

Still, the Browns might be finished compiling veterans after signing Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen to one-year deals Thursday. Adding David to the mix would give Cleveland three aging arms who weren't even in the league last season.

In his latest mock draft, Jeremiah doesn't see Derek making it past the Arizona Cardinals at No. 20. We'll find out Thursday night how this plays out, but the Browns clearly loom as a surefire candidate to draft a quarterback to compete with Brian Hoyer and this ballooning list of gray-bearded journeymen.

The latest "Around The League Podcast" runs through the latest NFL draft headlines and takes a look at which coaches and GMs are lying about their intentions.
