The veteran cornerback will sign a one-year contract to remain with the Detroit Lions, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday.

Tim Twentyman of the Lions' team website later confirmed the sides have agreed to terms.

Mathis, 33, was the Lions' top cover man last season, starting 13 games after replacing Darius Slay in the starting lineup in Week 3. Mathis -- who spent his first 10 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars -- finished with 15 passes defensed and 44 tackles.

Mathis' deal comes one week after the Lions signed cornerback Cassius Vaughn to a one-year pact. The two players join Chris Houston, Darius Slay and Bill Bentley in a group that could gain more company via the draft.
