Report: Manziel not only Aggies prospect Jaguars find intriguing

Former Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel is considered a perfect fit for the Jaguars by NFL Media analyst Charles Davis, and Manziel could very well land with Jacksonville, which holds the third overall pick in this year's draft.

Manziel is not the only Aggies prospect that is in play for the team, though.

Florida Times-Union beat writer Ryan O'Halloran has added further detail to his report that former Texas A&M left tackle Jake Matthews is a possible pick for the Jaguars, and he threw another ex-Aggie into the hopper as a potential pick for Jacksonville.

O'Halloran writes that Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell wouldn't mind trading down from No. 3 to stockpile more picks, but wants to stay in the top 10. If Caldwell finds a willing trade partner, O'Halloran reports Matthews or former Aggies wide receiver Mike Evans, who would fill a need in Jacksonville, could be the Jaguars' top pick.

Now, the Jaguars, who paraded just about every top prospect through team headquarters last week, have done a masterful job of not tipping their hand by feeding the perception that they're open to just about every draft possibility. Of course, by this point in the evaluation process, they have a good idea of who they want to target, but they've disguised their intentions well, and that should only help them find a trade partner if they do ultimately decide to move down.

It's possible they'll be able to move down and still get Manziel, if the quarterback slides.

Matthews' stock has been fairly steady throughout the process and he's projected to go no later than No. 6 to the Falcons in the mock drafts of NFL Media analysts. Evans' stock seems to booming and is looking more and more like a lock to go in the top 10.

If Caldwell gets the opportunity to make a deal and takes it, he won't be trading down very far if he still wants a chance to land Matthews or Evans.

As for what Jacksonville could do after the first round, the team might be looking for a rusher to pair with Toby Gerhart. O'Halloran reported former LSU RB Jeremy Hill, rated as the No. 3 back in the draft by NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock, visited the Jaguars on Thursday.
