Thomas DeCoud is staying in the NFC South.
The Carolina Panthers announced Thursday that they have signed the veteran safety to a two-year contract. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday, per a source who has seen the contract, that the deal is worth up to $3.75 million with a $500,000 signing bonus. DeCoud spent his first six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before his release last month.
DeCoud joins a safety group in Carolina that includes veterans Roman Harper and Charles Godfrey. Harper signed a two-year deal with the Panthers last month after eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints. Godfrey is making his return from surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
DeCoud, 29, was met by a quiet market upon his release by the Falcons after a down season, but should see plenty of action in a secondary that looks shaky on paper.
