Derek Carr scheduled to visit Jacksonville Jaguars

Derek Carr will visit the Jacksonville Jaguars, making for yet another NFL club with a quarterback need taking a close look at the former Fresno State star passer.

Carr is one of the top quarterback prospects available in the upcoming draft, although his status among the draft's elite quarterbacks is about as clear as the fog on Jacksonville's St. Johns River. While some projections have Carr as the draft's fourth-best quarterback and a late first- or early second-round pick, others indicate some clubs value him far more. Among them: the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders, whose early first-round picks immediately follow Jacksonville's No. 3 overall pick.

Carr's visit to Jacksonville, scheduled for Wednesday, was confirmed by a league source with espn.com. The Jaguars staff got a close look at Carr in January, coaching the South squad of the Reese's Senior Bowl. Carr threw 12 passes, completing seven, more attempts than either of the South's other two options in the game, Eastern Illinois' Jimmy Garoppolo and San Jose State's David Fales.

If the Jaguars hope to pick up Carr with their second-round pick, No. 39 overall, the club had better hope the clamor for Carr turns out to be unfounded. If Carr slips past the various teams in need of a quarterback between the Houston Texans (No. 1 overall) and the Tennessee Titans (No. 11 overall), the Browns also have the No. 26 overall pick and could have an ideal chance to claim him ahead of the second-round quarterback hunters.
