Derek Carr would welcome competition with Brian Hoyer

Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr respects Brian Hoyer, but he wouldn't be afraid to compete with the Cleveland Browns starting quarterback if he were to be drafted by the Browns. The potential first-round pick said as much in the aftermath of a successful private workout, and it's a challenge Hoyer would no doubt welcome.

"Brian's a veteran and he knows what he's doing. I'll sit there and learn from him as much as I can, but at the same time, we're going to push each other, try and make each other better and the ultimate goal is to make the team better," Carr said of Cleveland as his potential landing spot."

Told of Hoyer's confidence in his hold on the job despite his recovery from right knee surgery, Carr was deferential without conceding anything.

"That's fine. He's confident," he said, according to cleveland.com. "We can all say what we want, but you've just got to go out there and play and see what happens. Like I said, I'm not here to step on anybody's toes. The guy's a veteran. It would be great to learn from him, it would be great to compete against him every day, because all we're going to do is push each other to get better."

So how much does the club truly like Carr? Based on the interaction he had with the club, he thinks plenty.

"Absolutely, I left there with a really good vibe," Carr said. "Now, to the extent of whether they're going to pick me or not, I have no clue. Teams are good at disguising that kind of stuff. But from the standpoint of having a good feel from it and a good vibe of it, definitely."

According to the report, the Browns scheduled Carr for a late-April visit to the team's facility.

With both the No. 4 and No. 26 picks in the first round, Cleveland has plenty of flexibility to ensure that it won't be Carr's last trip there.
