Former Miami Dolphins cornerback Dimitri Patterson was set to visit the Jets on Monday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, citing a source who has spoken to Patterson.

ProFootballTalk was the first to report the visit.

Patterson, 30, dealt with a groin injury all last season before landing on injured reserve in December. Patterson was productive in the six games he played, finishing with 19 tackles, four interceptions, one sack and six passes defended.

Durability has been a major issue for Patterson -- he has played in just 15 games over the past three seasons and has appeared in 16 games just once since entering the league as an undrafted free agent with the Washington Redskins in 2005.

Cornerback has been a trouble spot and source of much criticism for the Jets this offseason. General manager John Idzik chose not to pursue a potential reunion with Darrelle Revis, then was outbid for the services of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, who signed with the New York Giants. The team also showed little interest in bringing back Antonio Cromartie.

Patterson makes sense for the Jets, who simply need some options across from Dee Milliner. Even if a deal gets done, don't be surprised if the Jets use another high draft pick on the cornerback position.

In other news, ESPNNewYork.com reported the Jets visited with wide receiver Jacoby Ford and guard Rich Ohrnberger on Monday. The speedy Ford managed 57 catches over three seasons with the Oakland Raiders. Ohrnberger is a former Chargers reserve who could help fill the depth void left by Vladimir Ducasse.

"King Ugly" signed with the Minnesota Vikings last week.
