Rob Ryan: Sean Payton is best coach I've worked with

The world of professional football learned years ago that the personalities of the Ryan twins are as outsized as their bodies.

Affectionately known on the "Around The League Podcast" as "Bad Santa," New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan marches to the beat of his own drummer.

A natural fit in the Big Easy, Ryan has been Grand Marshall in the Mardi Gras Parade, a St. Patrick's Day reveler and a dive-bar legend.

He's certainly not afraid to stand out in a crowd.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Ryan told the LSU high school coaches clinic Thursday night that Sean Payton is "the best coach I've ever coached for."

"And I've coached for Bill Belichick," Ryan added, per The Times-Picayune.

Left unsaid is that Ryan also has coached for his legendary father, Buddy Ryan, in addition to Norv Turner, Art Shell, Eric Mangini and Jason Garrett.

It should also be noted that Ryan has a tendency toward hyperbole. Last season, he dubbed cornerback Keenan Lewis the "best free agent out there" and rookie safety Kenny Vaccaro the top overall safety in football.

Belichick is regarded as the best coach of his generation and one of the finest in NFL history. Payton has won a Super Bowl of his own and recently surpassed Belichick as the league's highest-paid coach.

Payton has Ryan's vote. Belichick has the scoreboard.
