General manager Doug Whaley on Monday confirmed that second-year passer EJ Manuel is cemented in the starting role, according to John Kryk of the Toronto Sun.
"We're secure with our quarterback position. Obviously we're all in with EJ, and with Thad (Lewis) and Dennis Dixon and Jeff Tuel," Whaley said from the NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla. "We're really excited with what we bring to the table at that position."
"We wouldn't do it unless they knew they were coming in as a backup and a mentor to EJ, so it would have to be the right fit," said Whaley. "And they would have to come in knowing their slot."
It's a stance entirely opposite to the one Gang Green is taking with second-year man Geno Smith, now tasked with fending off the proven Vick for a chance to keep his starting gig.
That's not a dynamic the Bills wanted to nurture during Manuel's critical second season. The "Around The League Podcast" is now available on iTunes! Click here to listen and subscribe.
