The Minnesota Vikings announced Thursday that defensive tackle Letroy Guion has been released.

The 26-year-old started 13 games in 2013, but compiled just 21 tackles and one sack.

The move will save the Vikings $4 million in cap space. Guion was not producing in correlation with what he would cost in the final year of his contract.

The Vikings now find themselves in desperate need of defensive tackles -- with Sharrif Floyd the biggest name under contract. Mike Zimmer told reporters Thursday he would like to bring back veteran Kevin Williams -- as he said with nearly every Minnesota free agent.

The Vikings have upwards of $40 million in cap space available to chase defensive linemen who will fit Zimmer's scheme. Luckily for Minnesota, there also is a deep pool of defensive talent to throw money at in free agency.

The team also announced it released receiver Greg Childs, who was drafted in the fourth round in 2012 and tore up both of his knees. Childs never played a down for the Vikings.
