The Washington Redskins have opted to move on from defensive end Adam Carriker and punter Sav Rocca.
The team announced Tuesday it was terminating the contracts of both veterans. The moves save approximately $3.2 million in salary cap space.
The 13th overall pick of the St. Louis Rams in the 2007 draft, Carriker hasn't played since Week 2 of the 2012 season because of a recurring quad issue that has required three different surgeries. Though it's possible Carriker could get healthy and return to Washington at a lesser price, a team source told ESPN.com's John Keim the Redskinsdon't plan on bringing Carriker back. The defensive end was released with a failed physical designation, per the league's transaction wire.
Rocca played his part in the Redskins' epically dreadful special teams last season. The punter tied a career low with his 42-yard per punt average and finished dead last in net average (33.8). The 40-year-old had one year remaining on the two-year contract he signed last March.
The Redskins also released tight end Richard Quinn and waived running backs Jawan Jamison and Davin Meggett.
