One intriguing potential landing spot is Indianapolis, where the Colts have become fertile ground for the high-profile Stanford alumni. Quarterback Andrew Luck, tight end Coby Fleener and offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton are all former Cardinals. Martin was Luck's blindside protector in college and remains good friends with the QB.
During a Wednesday appearance on NBC Sports Network's "Pro Football Talk," Luck sung Martin's praises while leaving the door open for a reunion.
"I'd say I love Jon, we had a great time at Stanford together, still stay in touch with him regularly and I think he's a great man," Luck said, explaining how he'd respond if asked about Martin.
PFT said Luck was "choosing his words carefully" during the conversation. But when asked if he'd be 100 percent in favor of the Colts acquiring Martin, Luck responded: "Yes."
The partnership would make some sense. The Colts need help at offensive tackle, and Martin (who, lest we forget, was once a highly regarded NFL prospect) has experience in Hamilton's system.
It also wouldn't hurt from an assimilation standpoint to be close friends with the most important figure in the organization.
