Boyd on Bridgewater: 'I thought we were here to compete'

INDIANAPOLIS -- Sunday is the biggest day at the NFL Scouting Combine, but many of the biggest names are sitting out of most events. Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel and Derek Carr decided not to throw. (Bridgewater is bizarrely doing one thing: The broad jump.)

The quarterbacks' collective decisions has caused some teeth-gnashing among the media and the teams here, even if it doesn't affect draft stock. Their absence also allows guys like AJ McCarron and Tajh Boyd to stand out with big performances. But Boyd can't understand why Bridgewater didn't run or throw.

"I thought we were here to compete," Boyd told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

It can't be easy for Bridgewater and Manziel to just sit on the sidelines and watch. But the players aren't really here to compete. They are here to make money. Right or wrong, their agents believed the best way to make that money was to sit out most activities on Sunday.
