Alex Mack re-signing Cleveland Browns' 'priority No. 1'

The Alex Mack news cycle continues in 2014.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Cleveland Browns view re-signing the veteran center as "priority No. 1," according to a source informed of the team's thinking.

Cleveland has other tasks to tackle, including locking up cornerbackJoe Haden long term and settling the safety position, but retaining its center sits atop the team's offseason to-do list.

With the quarterback position unsettled in Cleveland, retaining the Pro Bowl center is important for whoever takes the snaps. Mack's experience would be especially helpful if the Browns use the No. 4 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft on a quarterback.

Rapoport reported earlier this month that the 28-year-old center from Cal had a "better chance" of returning to Cleveland after general manager Michael Lombardi and CEO Joe Banner were fired.

One big positive for Mack's chances of sticking in Cleveland is that ownership loves him, according to Rapoport.
