Devin Hester, Lovie Smith might be reunited on Bucs

Devin Hester acknowledged in late December that the Chicago Bears have a "tough decision" on his future in the Windy City as he approaches free agency.

One touchdown shy of breaking his tie with Deion Sanders for most return touchdowns in NFL history, Hester has stated his preference to set a new mark while finishing his career with the Bears.

If the front office views the 31-year-old as a luxury rather than a necessity while attempting to rebuild a decrepit defense, don't be surprised if Lovie Smith lures him to the Tampa Bay region.

Hester's coach for seven years in Chicago, Smith emphasized the need for a great returner in his introductory news conference with the Buccaneers.

According to longtime Bears reporter Dan Pompei, now with Bleacher Report, there already is speculation in league circles that Hester is headed for a reunion with Smith.

The Bucs haven't had an impact return specialist since Clifton Smith's career was ruined by a series of concussions. Hester immediately would become the most dangerous kick returner in franchise history if he follows Smith.
