Gio Bernard looks forward to 'craziest playbook ever'

With Hue Jackson taking over the offensive coordinator duties, the Cincinnati Bengals are expected to move toward a more ground-and-pound approach.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Giovani Bernard will be the biggest beneficiaries of the approach. Appearing on NFL Network's "NFL AM" Thursday, Bernard said he is looking forward to having Jackson as coordinator.

"For me and Benny, I think we've done a good job thus far. I think we can continue to keep doing a good job," Bernard said. "We just got to go into it with an open mind, and he's (Jackson) going to create this craziest playbook ever, but it's going to be fun. I'm excited for it."

Bernard didn't detail what kind of "crazy" he expected Jackson to employ, but it was clear the running back predicts a different kind of energy to the offense than Jay Gruden promoted.

"He was our running back coach and one thing I learned from him is that he brings a different intensity to the position group that he coaches," Bernard said. "Now because he's going to take over the OC job he's going to bring that entire intensity that us running backs were under during practice, he's going to bring that to the entire offense. I think it will spread out to the team and help us."

Heading into his second season, Bernard believes the Bengals remain the best team in the AFC North. He was asked if there is a team stronger than the Bengals within the division.

"No, I don't think there is," the 22-year-old said. "There are great teams in the division. Every game in our division is a tough game. It's a tough division, so if you can get out of that healthy and ready, having a good record, I think you can make it (deep in the playoffs)."
