Texas Tech places Super Bowl billboard in Times Square

Billboards are back! They are being used to stump for drafting Johnny Manziel, to mock North Carolina State fans, and now, to recognize a trio of Denver Broncos starters in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Texas Tech has placed a billboard in Times Square recognizing three alums: wide receiver Wes Welker, center Manny Ramirez and offensive guard Louis Vasquez. Each rose to prominence under former head coach Mike Leach during the 2000's.

And this isn't the first time college football billboards have taken over New York City's signage. In 2001, Oregon placed a billboard across from Madison Square Garden to tout quarterback Joey Harrington's Heisman Trophy candidacy, then followed it up the next year with one in Times Square featuring wide receiver Keenan Howry to boost the Ducks' national profile.
