If Mark Sanchez doesn't have a future in Gotham, will other teams come calling?
One coach of a quarterback-needy team told the New York Post this week that the Jets passer wouldn't be out of work for long if Gang Green cuts him this offseason.
"We'd take Sanchez,"Â the coach told the newspaper. "He'd be the starter as soon as he walked in the door for us."
Sanchez's release would save the Jets $8.3 million off his lofty $13.1 million salary-cap figure. With Geno Smith easing into the starting role, no one would be surprised to see New York part ways with Sanchez, who coughed up 52 turnovers during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
He's far from a long-term solution, but Sanchez would be aided on the open market by this offseason's thin crop of free-agent passers. March's collection of available quarterbacks is set to include Michael Vick, Josh Freeman, Shaun Hill, Josh McCown and Chad Henne.
"Supply and demand," one executive told the Post.
We doubt the Bears will let McCown walk if he intends to return in 2014 at age 35, and Vick -- despite durability issues -- remains a better overall player than Sanchez. Still, we don't disagree with the premise: Quarterbacks have nine lives, and some coaching staff is going to snatch up The Sanchize with hopes that it can mend his shaky play.
