A couple weeks ago, Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage put some sunshine on Vanderbilt wide receiver Jordan Matthews' work ethic with this tweet that drew a lot of attention:
Matthews, of course, was asked Monday about his study session. It never materialized the way he wanted, but he still took a sneak peek at the competition.
"Mr. Savage was trying to send me (film), but it didn't follow through," Matthews admitted. "But there were some cut-ups online ... of all the guys that are here. I was able to watch a little bit, see some of their tendencies. There are some great guys out here. (Aaron) Colvin from Oklahoma is a very talented corner. I was glad I got to go against him. And of course (Auburn's) Chris Davis, a very physical corner and such a good return man. All those guys are great."
Matthews dropped a few passes on Monday -- including a couple of well-contested deep passes -- atypical of one of the most consistent and prolific receivers in SEC history. Matthews said he would be looking to make up for the miscues Tuesday.
"I was not extremely happy. I did leave some out there. I'm just going to go home, watch the film, see what I did wrong, and try to correct it by tomorrow," he said.
Matthews measured between 6-2 and 6-3 at the weigh-in, and 209 pounds. The SEC's career receiving leader's highlight Monday came on a leaping catch on a back-shoulder route from Fresno State quarterback David Carr.
