UCLA coach Jim Mora has removed his name from the Texas Longhorns coaching search, according to cbssports.com.
According to reports, Longhorns officials had reached out to Mora, but never formally offered him the position. Mora improved the Bruins from 9-5 to 10-3 over his first two seasons with the school. With Mora pulling out and Baylor coach Art Briles insisting that he isn't going anywhere, the pool of candidates for the Longhorns has begun to shrink, but there are still plenty of prominent names reportedly in the Longhorns' mix. Those include Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher, who will lead the Seminoles into the BCS National Championship Game on Monday night, Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, Louisville coach Charlie Strong and Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio.
If Fisher is Texas' top target, it will be next week at the earliest before the Longhorns can get their new coach in place. Like Briles, however, Fisher has just received a new contract extension that figures to make a Longhorns play for his services much trickier.
With national signing day about a month away, Texas no doubt is looking to have its man in place as soon as possible.
