Texas Tech's Jace Amaro, the most prolific pass-catching tight end in college football this season, announced his plans to enter the 2014 NFL Draft following the Holiday Bowl win over Arizona State on Monday night.
ESPN.com first reported Amaro's decision during the 37-23 upset win, in which he caught eight passes for 112 yards.
Amaro had a whopping 106 receptions for 1,356 yards and seven touchdowns this season, outpacing the next closest player at the position, North Carolina junior Eric Ebron, by 44 receptions, 379 yards and four touchdowns. Amaro also set a new NCAA single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end.
Playing extensively as a slot receiver in the Red Raiders' Air Raid spread offense, Amaro (6-foot-5, 260 pounds) is extremely polished as a route runner and demonstrates terrific hands, which could give him an edge over fellow top prospects Ebron and Washington junior Austin Seferian-Jenkins. However, Amaro will need to refine his skills as an in-line player, especially blocking in the running game.
