Who will join ex- Browns coach Rob Chudzinski on the firing line and who's safe? We track the latest news. **More ...**

On the heels of Sunday night's firing of Rob Chudzinski, many have linked Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to the vacancy, based primarily on general manager Michael Lombardi's affinity for all things New England.

Don't hold your breath.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport was told by a source familiar with McDaniels' thinking that it's no sure thing that he'd accept the role in Cleveland, if offered.

McDaniels is just four years removed from diving into a less-than-ideal situation with the Denver Broncos. Candidates only get so many chances at the top role, and Rapoport was told McDaniels will carefully consider all factors in pondering his next move.

NFL Media's Albert Breer also noted that McDaniels was motivated to return to New England to create stability for his family. He's the father of four young children and is being paid well with the Patriots. He and his wife share roots in Northeast Ohio, but stability with the Browns is far from certain.

CEO Joe Banner indicated the Browns wouldn't interview any candidates that met with the team last year, which would rule out Penn State's Bill O'Brien.

UPDATE: The Brownshave inquired about Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase, Rapoport reported, per a source informed of the Browns' thinking.
