Nineteen more players were announced as Reese's Senior Bowl participants Monday, including the nation's leading rusher but also two linemen who never really lived up to their potential while in college.
Miami offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson (6-foot-8, 345 pounds) and California defensive tackle DeAndre Coleman (6-5, 315) have all the needed physical tools, but neither has played with any consistency in his career. Henderson started just six games this season at right tackle and missed one game because of a suspension; it was the third time in as many seasons that Henderson missed at least a game because of a suspension. Coleman started all 12 games for the Golden Bears, and while he had 39 tackles, he once again was not a big-play guy.
Their athleticism and size make both intriguing prospects, though, which makes Senior Bowl week extremely important for the duo.
Boston College tailback Andre Williams, who leads the nation with 2,102 rushing yards, and Pitt defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who leads the nation with 26.5 tackles for loss, also were among the players who accepted invitations. Two players from Stanford, linebackers Shayne Skov and Trent Murphy, and two from Baylor, guard Cyril Richardson and wide receiver Tevin Reese, also will play in the Senior Bowl.
The others who were announced Monday: Massachusetts tight end Rob Blanchflower, Oklahoma cornerback Aaron Colvin, UCLA wide receiver Shaquelle Evans, Kansas State long snapper Marcus Heit, Wyoming free safety Marqueston Huff, Mississippi State guard Gabe Jackson, Florida State linebacker Christian Jones, LSU strong safety Craig Loston, Notre Dame offensive tackle Zack Martin, West Virginia tailback Charles Sims and Montana linebacker Jordan Tripp.
While Martin played tackle at Notre Dame, conventional wisdom seems that he fits best at guard at the next level. Most analysts think Sims is the best senior running back available for the draft. Blanchflower has good size (6-4, 260) and was a productive player in a bad program, though he did miss six games with injuries this season. Tripp is a good athlete who already has moved to Oakland to prepare for the draft. Huff, who will join Wyoming wide receiver Robert Herron at the Senior Bowl, was a high school teammate of LaMichael James at Texarkana (Texas) Liberty-Eylau.
