There's another Shula coaching in south Florida -- this one at Florida Atlantic.

New FAU coach Charlie Partridge has named Dan Shula, the grandson of legendary NFL coach Don Shula and the son of not-so-legendary NFL coach David Shula, to his staff. Dan Shula, 29, spent the past four seasons as the receivers coach at Illinois State, an FCS school, and it is believed he will be the Owls' receiver coach, as well.

As you would expect, Dan Shula has extensive ties to south Florida. He was a quarterback at powerhouse Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, then was a three-year letterwinner at quarterback for Dartmouth. He also is a former graduate assistant at Miami and Alabama; he worked for his uncle Mike Shula at Alabama. Mike now is the Carolina Panthers' quarterback coach.

Partridge, who had been Arkansas' defensive line coach, also has extensive ties to south Florida. He is from Plantation, a Fort Lauderdale suburb, and both he and Dan Shula grew up about 20 miles south of Boca Raton, the site of FAU's campus. Along with Shula's ties to the area, his last name should carry a lot of weight on the recruiting trail in south Florida.
