All Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston does is win, and win big, claiming the 79th Heisman Trophy in a landslide in New York City on Saturday night.
Alabama's AJ McCarron was second in the voting, followed by Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch, Boston College's Andre Williams, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel and Auburn's Tre Mason.
Winston's margin of victory is the seventh-biggest of all-time. He received 2,205 points, 1,501 more than McCarron, who polled 704 points. The rest of the point totals were Lynch, 558; Williams, 470; Manziel, 421; and Mason, 404.
Winston, the second consecutive redshirt freshman to win the most prestigious award in college football, added to an already impressive list of accomplishments and accolades that includes leading the No. 1 Seminoles to the BCS championship game and ACC championship and winning the Davey O'Brien Award as the top collegiate quarterback.
Though he must wait at least one more season before declaring for the NFL draft, Winston (6-foot-4, 228 pounds) also established himself as a premier pro prospect, with NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks labeling Winston the most likely to succeed on Sundays among the six finalists.
"If Winston continues to develop at this current pace, there's no reason why he shouldn't enjoy a long, illustrious career in the NFL as a Pro Bowl-caliber starter," Brooks said.
Winston passed for 3,820 yards and 38 touchdowns, both FBS freshman records, as Florida State won its 13 games by an average margin of victory of 42.3 points, all by at least 14 points.
Winston would join Matt Leinart (2004), Mark Ingram (2009) and Cam Newton (2010) as the only players to win the national championship and the Heisman Trophy in the same season in the BCS era. Florida State plays Auburn in the BCS championship game Jan. 6.
