Aaron Rodgers' return to the Green Bay Packers' lineup remains uncertain.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy told reporters Tuesday that Rodgers has not been ruled out to play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, but the quarterback has yet to be medically cleared after the latest round of tests on his injured left collarbone.
Rodgers is scheduled to practice in a limited fashion Wednesday, with Matt Flynn will taking the starter reps. Flynn struggled mightily in a blowout loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, but McCarthy believes the veteran is "further along" than Scott Tolzien.
McCarthy shot down a report that Rodgers won't play again this season if the Packers fall out of contention in the NFC playoff race.
"There have been no internal discussions to shutting Aaron Rodgers down," McCarthy said.
Rodgers, meanwhile, didn't hold back his disappointment following his latest round of tests. The former MVP hasn't played in a game since breaking his collarbone on Nov. 4.
"I can't say this morning was the greatest news," Rodgers said on his weekly radio show on WAUK-AM in Milwaukee. "I was hoping for full clearance, and we didn't get that."
"I saw the scan, and I saw the X-ray, I'm going to let people read between the lines. Don't know about these leaks."
We learned Sunday that a source close to Rodgers told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that Rodgers would be "lucky" to play against the Falcons. Nothing in McCarthy's latest comments do anything to make us believe that has changed.
