Texas Tech's Jace Amaro hints at return after Mackey snub

Texas Tech TE Jace Amaro is not among the three finalists for this season's John Mackey Award.

Sounds like Jace Amaro of Texas Tech is not pleased by being snubbed by the John Mackey Award, presented to the top tight end in college football.

Despite ranking in the top 10 in the FBS in receptions per game and receiving yards, Amaro was not among the three finalists announced Monday. Afterward, Amaro took to Twitter, hinting that the omission could sway his decision whether to return to college next season.

A 6-foot-5, 260-pound junior, Amaro has 92 receptions for 1,157 yards and six touchdowns this season, playing mostly as a slot receiver in the Red Raiders' passing-heavy Air Raid spread offense.

Amaro had previously indicated he had not made up his mind whether to forego his senior season.

Amaro lacks the bulk and experience to be an immediate contributor as a traditional hand-on-the-ground tight end, but would be a an undeniable mismatch in an NFL offense as a "Joker" capable of lining up anywhere in a formation.
