Take one of the most outspoken, unpredictable NFL players of the last decade. Put him on the freewheeling New York Jets. It was only a matter of time until safety Ed Reed said something that will create headlines.
"In hindsight, he's probably the reason I'm not there," Reed said of Phillips, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
Reed, who was released by the Texans last week, will return to Baltimore for the second time in 2013 on Sunday. But he still was talking about the "interesting stuff" that went on in Houston. Reed said he didn't have a problem with the players or "most of the coaches." He made it clear that Phillips was the exception.
Reed was asked if he spoke to Phillips after his release from the team.
"He came in and basically made sure I was leaving," Reed said.
Unlike Phillips, we are going to miss Ed Reed when he's gone.
New York Jets safety Ed Reed says that Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Philips 'probably' was the reason for his release. The NFL "Around The League Podcast" crew reacts. Click here to listen and subscribe.
