RGIII: Philadelphia Eagles' D 'knew what was coming'

The fast-improving Philadelphia Eagles defense held its seventh straight opponent to 21 or fewer points on Sunday in a 24-16 win over the Washington Redskins.

According to Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, at least part of the credit should go to Eagles defensive coordinator Bill Davis' game plan and preparation.

"They did a good job of scheming us up," RGIII said after the game, per The Washington Post. "They kind of knew what was coming before it was coming and that was disheartening. But like I told the guys, regardless of what's going on out there, we're the players and we have to make the plays work, and we just weren't doing that in the first half."

Whether accidental or subtle, the criticism no doubt will be taken as a slight to coach Mike Shanahan and, more directly, to offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

The Redskins trailed 24-0 before rallying to make it a one-score game in the fourth quarter.

Griffin specifically pointed out the Eagles' first-half pass defense. The Redskins ran the ball well early -- ending the half with 28 runs for 160 yards -- but couldn't supplement it with the passing game (four completions for 26 first-half yards).

"Obviously, we ran the ball well, but in the passing game a lot of times, they were tit for tat," Griffin said. "They were there, where they needed to be and a lot of times they were taking the routes that needed to be run and that's disheartening, but we have to come up with something for that."

RGIII didn't use the word "outcoached," but that is exactly how those quotes will be viewed.
