Will Muschamp says Florida fans need to "get a grip"

A frustrated Florida coach Will Muschamp defended his players and admonished fans for negativity in the wake of a 19-14 loss to South Carolina Saturday.

Said Muschamp: "There is a lot of negativity out there, and some of our fans need to get a grip. They really do."

Later in the news conference, Muschamp was asked about a gash on his hand, and acknowledged how it occurred.

"I hit a chalkboard ... dumb," he said.

The Gators have lost 10 players to season-ending injuries, including seven starters, and were without a top defender due to suspension in junior cornerback Marcus Roberson. Due to an injury to quarterback Tyler Murphy, the Gators had to start third-stringer Skyler Mornhinweg, who attempted just 13 passes as UF's offense tried to rely on its rushing attack.

Now with six losses on the season, UF can only qualify for a bowl game with a win over Georgia Southern next week, plus a highly unlikely upset of No. 2-ranked Florida State.
