Jameis Winston, AJ McCarron lead Walter Camp semifinalists

It is a quarterback's world, as 10 of the 15 semifinalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award are signal-callers, including Florida State freshman sensation Jameis Winston and Alabama stalwart AJ McCarron.

The other quarterbacks to make the cut include Clemson's Tajh Boyd, Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater, Fresno State's Derek Carr, Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, Oregon's Marcus Mariota, Ohio State's Braxton Miller and Baylor's Bryce Petty.

That roster includes seven of the eight most efficient quarterbacks in college football this season. Of the quarterbacks not in that group, Carr and Manziel are ranked first and second in touchdown passes. Lynch is the leading rusher among quarterbacks and ranks ninth among all players at 127 yards per game.

UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr, Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey, Aggies wide receiver Mike Evans, Crimson Tide linebacker C.J. Mosley and Missouri defensive end Michael Sam are the five non-quarterback semifinalists.

The five finalists will be announced on Dec. 2.

Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o won the award last season, breaking a streak of four-straight years where it was won by a quarterback. Quarterbacks have won it eight of the last 13 years, a far cry from its early years when it went almost exclusively to running backs.

Presented by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and voted on by FBS head coaches and sports information directors, the award is the fourth oldest in all of college football.
