Kyle Williams waived by San Francisco 49ers

Kyle Williams has run out of chances with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers announced Tuesday that the wide receiver was placed on waivers, along with cornerback Perrish Cox.

"Decisions like these are always difficult...Kyle & Perrish have represented the #49ers organization very well...," Niners General manager Trent Baalke said.

Williams made five starts at wide receiver this season, managing just 12 catches for 113 yards. Williams struggled as a return man as well, leaving him vulnerable with Mario Manningham back in the lineup and Michael Crabtree on the way.

Williams, 25, never got his career off the ground in San Francisco and forever will be remembered in 49ers lore for his two special teams turnovers in the 2011 NFC Championship Game against the New York Giants.

With little track record for success and less than one year removed from surgery to repair a torn ACL, Williams could struggle to find his way onto another roster.
