Texas Tech will host more than 400 Purple Heart recipients for its Nov. 9 home game against Kansas State.

Week 9: Things we learned

It is expected to be the largest such gathering ever on American soil in history, the school said in a press release.

Tim Kingsbury, father of first-year Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury, received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Vietnam.

Texas Tech will also wear special gray uniforms with red accents, and the jerseys will feature the motto "Never Quit" across the back instead of players' names. The Red Raiders will also wear red and black helmets emblazoned with the same phrase.

Texas Tech will auction off the uniforms after the game, with all proceeds going Lone Survivor Foundation, which benefits wounded troops and their families.
