As the son of rapper Snoop Dogg and as a highly regarded recruit in the Class of 2015, Diamond Bar (Calif.) wide receiver Cordell Broadus is well on his way to becoming the Johnny Manziel of high school football, where everything he does on and off the field is going to be scrutinized.
That became more than apparent last Friday, when Broadus, who holds scholarship offers from USC, UCLA, LSU, and Notre Dame, was emblazoned across the celebrity news website TMZ in a video that showed his apparent role in a bench-clearing brawl.
The grainy footage shows Broadus running across the field and apparently striking a player from Diamond Ranch High from behind.
The game was called off with Diamond Ranch leading 34-20 with just over three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
On Wednesday, Broadus was among 19 players who received one-game suspensions for the on-field melee, according to a report by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Broadus, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound junior, made headlines earlier this season when he came out in favor of the firing of USC head coach Lane Kiffin and endorsed Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian as the next man to lead the Trojans.
