Vikings coach Leslie Frazier announced Wednesday that Josh Freeman came out of Monday night's debacle against the New York Giants with concussion-like symptoms. The quarterback has entered the league's protocol for head injuries, Frazier said, making it "more than likely" that Christian Ponder will start Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers.
Frazier said Freeman arrived at the facility Tuesday "and wasn't feeling so well." The Vikings plan to evaluate Freeman daily while handing Ponder first-team reps in Wednesday's practice and beyond.
Freeman told coaches he believes a third-quarter hit against Big Blue led to the concussion.
"We're going to need a good game out of our quarterback," said Frazier, asking for something Freeman didn't deliver against the Giants. "We're focused on Christian having the best game of his career on Sunday night."
Frazier went out of his way to credit Ponder's steady mindset and leadership during his benching, but that hasn't been the problem with Ponder. On the field, there isn't enough to distinguish between Freeman, Ponder or Matt Cassell. As the old adage goes, when you have two quarterbacks, you don't have a quarterback.
