Indianapolis Colts linebacker Robert Mathis waited a long time for the chance to hit Peyton Manning, his longtime teammate, and it didn't take long for Mathis to get to the Denver Broncos quarterback on "Sunday Night Football." Mathis' strip-sack of Manning led to a Colts safety, which jump-started Indy's 39-33 upset of the Broncos and earned Mathis this week's "Performance Moment of the Week," presented by Bridgestone.
Mathis' moment came midway through the second quarter as Manning and the Broncos faced a third-and-7 from their own 9-yard line. The Broncos led 14-10 at the time of the play, but Mathis blew past Denver offensive tackle Chris Clark and knocked the ball out of Manning's hand. The ball then rolled out of the end zone, giving the Colts a safety and cutting the Broncos' lead to two.
Colts quarterback Andrew Luck then proceeded to march Indianapolis on a seven-play drive that culminated in a 20-yard touchdown strike to Stanley Havili, giving the Colts a lead they would not relinquish Sunday night.
Mathis' safety sparked a run of 23 unanswered points for the Colts, who improved to 5-2 on the season.
