Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Karl Dorrell said before Sunday's game versus the Kansas City Chiefs that the "best-case scenario" would involve Case Keenum putting himself in position to challenge Matt Schaub for the starting job.
"Obviously, Matt's our starting quarterback," Kubiak said. "Case went in and played extremely well. I'm going to sit down, we're on a bye week, (and) I'm going to evaluate where we're at as a team and move forward form there."
Kubiak went on to praise Keenum for playing mistake-free football and "handling the team very well" in a tough environment.
The Houston Chronicle's John McClain, a veteran translator of coachspeak, came away from Monday's press conference "fully expecting" Kubiak to stick with Keenum.
In an ideal world, Schaub's ankle injury will buy Keenum one more start before Kubiak's hand is forced.
