Texas sits atop the Big 12 standings, but is a slight underdog for its game at TCU, and Longhorns quarterback Case McCoy thinks he knows the reason.

"Probably because I'm the quarterback, right?" McCoy told reporters Monday.

Things we learned

McCoy will make his third consecutive start for UT this week, as David Ash was ruled out again Sunday because of the lingering effects of a concussion.

After a mercurial career, McCoy has been an effective game manager in his three starts this season, completing 63 of 102 passes for 630 yards and four touchdowns with one interception, benefitting from an improved running game and a defense that appears to be finally living up to its potential.

But McCoy will likely have to do much more against a Horned Frogs defense that leads the conference in rushing defense, allowing just 115 yards per game, and has lockdown All-America corner Jason Verrett in the secondary.

Saturday should be a good indication of whether UT can push for the Big 12 title with McCoy directing the offense, or whether the health of Ash will determine the team's ceiling.
