Test results confirmed Monday what Cushing had feared. Cushing told NFL Media's Albert Breer that he has a broken fibula and torn LCL. Cushing will have surgery in the next few days, Breer reported. On Sunday, Cushing said his season might be over.
Cushing was ruled out right away Sunday after Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles' helmet connected directly with Cushing's left knee after Cushing came on a blitz. Cushing had to be helped off the field without putting any pressure on his leg, and he was very emotional.
With Cushing out, Darryl Sharpton likely is to enter the starting lineup next to Joe Mays. Houston's defense played well again Sunday, but the Texans fell to 2-5 on the season after losing 17-16 in Kansas City.
Last season, the Texans had a solid offense to help mitigate Cushing's loss. That is no longer the case.
