In a Big 12 Conference that has been synonymous with wide-open offenses for more than a decade, it shouldn't be a surprise that the frontrunner is explosive Baylor, the only team that is apparently capable of consistently producing points and yards in bunches this season.

Of the marquee individual performances -- 300 passing yards, 100 yards rushing or receiving -- turned in on a slow Saturday, the Bears accounted for half of them in a 71-7 demolition of Iowa State.

Things we learned

From Jadeveon Clowney returning to form to Florida State's complete dismantling of Clemson, here are the 38 lessons learned from the college football weekend. **More ...**

Quarterback Bryce Petty was 23-of-31 passing for 343 yards and two touchdowns before taking a seat early in the fourth quarter. It was only the second time this season that the redshirt junior played that late into a game, but Petty still has 2,023 yards and 15 touchdowns against one interception while completing 70.8 percent of his passes through his first six career starts.

Petty's top targets were again Antwan Goodley (11 receptions for 182 yards and two touchdowns) and Tevin Reese (six receptions for 105 yards), taking advantage of a Cyclones secondary with some talented players like safety Jacques Washington. However, in the one-on-one matchups that head coach Art Briles' offense dictates, ISU simply couldn't hold the speedy receivers in check.

Running back Lache Seastrunk got in on the fun as well, topping the century mark for the 10th time in BU's last 12 games dating back to last season. Seastrunk had 112 yards on 18 carries with a pair of short touchdown runs.

Add it up and it was BU's fifth game scoring 69 points or more this season, a level of dominance that, when combined with a slew of upsets across college football, lifted the Bears to fifth in the USA Today Coaches Poll and sixth in the AP Poll.

Among the other top individual offensive performances in the Big 12:

» Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro continued to pace the Big 12 in receptions and receiving yards, adding nine catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-27 win at West Virginia.

Freshman quarterback Davis Webb, making his second career start, threw for 462 yards and two touchdowns.

» Still working without the benefit of a competent passing offense, Kansas running back James Sims rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-19 loss to Oklahoma.

Sims has now rushed for 100 yards in seven conference games over the past two seasons, even as opposing defenses have a total awareness of the battering ram that is coming straight at them.

» Oklahoma State wide receiver Josh Stewart caught 10 passes for 141 yards, the only offensive performance of note in an unwatchable 24-10 Cowboys win over TCU.

Stewart also scored on a 95-yard punt return.
