Wade Phillips will coach Texans after father's death

Wade Phillips lost his father Friday, but the Houston Texans defensive coordinator will fulfill his football duties this weekend.

A team spokesman told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that Phillips is traveling with the team to Kansas City following the passing of coaching legend Bum Phillips.

Wade will coach in Sunday's game against the Chiefs before returning to his family.

Bum Phillips became a Texas football icon during his 1975 to 1980 coaching run with the Houston Oilers. He later coached the New Orleans Saints for five seasons. He died Friday at his ranch in Goliad, Texas, at the age of 90.

"Bum is gone to Heaven," Wade tweeted Friday night. "Loved and will be missed by all -- great Dad, Coach, and Christian."

We always loved that Wade's Twitter handle was "SonofBum," a nice bit of insight into the affection between a son and his father.
