NFL not considering Thursday night doubleheaders

One game is enough for Thursday nights, thank you very much.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that the NFL has discussed selling an additional package of "Thursday Night Football" games, but a league spokesman says that isn't the case:

A person familiar with the NFL's strategy told the Journal that league executives have floated the idea of a second Thursday night tilt to media outlets in an effort to drum up more national interest around midweek play.

More football -- on any night -- is a win for fans, but too many of this season's Thursday affairs have been characterized by sloppy play. The condensed week is a challenge for coaches and players alike, no matter what fun it brings to viewers.

One game is enough for now -- and the league seems to agree.
