Some of the most promising defensive players on the LSU roster carried the Tigers to a win in a defensive struggle against Florida, 17-6 on Saturday, and weakside linebacker Lamin Barrow was in the center of the action all day.
A senior, Barrow made a game-high 13 tackles in what was perhaps the most physical game in the Southeastern Conference this season, harassing a plodding Florida offense that never found the end zone all day. Barrow (6-2, 232), who is projected as a potential mid-round draft choice, made one tackle for loss and broke up a pass as well.
Barrow wasn't the only Tiger to show teeth. Defensive tackle Anthony Johnson, an even stronger prospect than Barrow, recorded one of four sacks on Florida quarterback Tyler Murphy. Johnson began the season somewhat slowly but has improved his play in recent weeks. Senior safety Craig Loston, coming off an injury, contributed nine stops and a pass breakup.
By day's end, Florida had managed only 111 rushing yards and 240 yards in total offense, and an LSU defense that had allowed 91 points over its previous three games delivered its most impressive performance of the season.
