Don't expect a Matt Flynn homecoming with the Green Bay Packers.
Flynn was released Monday by the Oakland Raiders, his second team since leaving the Packers as a free agent following the 2011 season. The Packers auditioned several quarterbacks during the summer before settling on Seneca Wallace as Aaron Rodgers' understudy. Wallace appears to be entrenched.
"Personally, I'm very happy with the quarterback room, the way it looks, the people in it," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday, via ESPN.com. "Obviously Matt was a Packer, very fond of Matt and his time here.
"As far as any roster moves and things like that, I really don't have any comment on, but I do like Seneca Wallace. I like what he's done since he's been here. I feel very good about our quarterback room."
Flynn's only semblance of NFL success came with Green Bay. He turned heads with a Sunday night performance against the New England Patriots in 2010, then set a Packers record with 480 yards passing and six touchdown passes in Green Bay's 2011 regular-season finale.
Those cameos helped to secure a lucrative free-agent deal with the Seattle Seahawks, a contract that paid out $14.5 million over the past two seasons. As far as favors go, McCarthy is all set on the Matt Flynn front.
