Pittsburgh Steelers won't give up despite bad start

It's easy to poke fun at the Pittsburgh Steelers for attempting to solve their left tackle dilemma Wednesday by trading for one of the NFL's most infamous swinging gates.

Are we supposed to have faith in this organization's ability to assess offensive line talent after a series of swings and misses over the past half-decade?

What the nascent acquisition of Levi Brown does signal, however, is that the Steelers aren't ready to punt on the 2013 season after an 0-4 start.

With 12 games still to be played, Pittsburgh is only two games back in an AFC North that lacks a dominant team.

The offense already has been transformed with the returns of tight end Heath Miller and running back Le'Veon Bell. The recent inclusion of package plays for rookie wide receiver Markus Wheaton is yet another promising sign.

No quarterback has more passing yards over the past two weeks than Ben Roethlisberger, who still moves well and makes plays on the run like vintage Big Ben (see videos for two of the prettiest throws of Week 4).

After averaging just 236 yards of offense in the first two games, Roethlisberger's unit is up to a healthy 447 yards over the past two. If the run defense can bounce back from a trademark Adrian Petersonstomping, there's no reason coach Mike Tomlin's squad can't compete with flawed teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

It might be too late to salvage Gregg Rosenthal's MVP prediction, but a playoff spot isn't out of the question.
