Barry J. Sanders really is a chip off the old block.
The Stanford running back showed moves reminiscent of those his father, Barry Sanders, used during his legendary career at Oklahoma State and then with the Detroit Lions. The younger Sanders employed a nifty juke move and stepped out of a tackle for a 16-yard gain on a screen pass in the Cardinal's game against Washington State on Saturday.
It was only the second career touch for Sanders, who had a two-yard carry in the season opener. Sanders later added three carries for 34 yards with his first career touchdown coming on a 22-yard run in the fourth quarter of the 55-17 win over the Cougars.
The 5-foot-10, 192-pound redshirt freshman has impressed during practice in his brief time at Stanford and is expected to challenge for a bigger role next season when current feature back Tyler Gaffney graduates.
