Thursday it appeared he was unlikely to play in the game, and TCU coach Gary Patterson announced Friday that Fields had been ruled out.

Fields suffered a foot injury in a loss to Texas Tech on Sept. 12. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports sources have said Fields broke his foot, but TCU has not revealed the extent of his injury.

Fields is the reigning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. He recorded a team-high 18.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks last season, but his sophomore campaign is off to a disappointing start.

He did not play in the season opener against LSU and only played in one quarter the next week against Southeastern Louisiana as part of a two-game suspension for violating team rules. He still has one quarter remaining on the suspension.
