Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews held under 100 yards vs. UMass

Two Southeastern Conference opponents -- Ole Miss and South Carolina -- couldn't hold Vanderbilt wide receiver Jordan Matthews under 100 yards receiving. So leave it to a non-conference doormat like UMass to pull it off.

The Commodores' offensive star had a strong day against the Minutemen with eight catches for 76 yards and a touchdown in a 24-7 win. But it was his first game in which he fell short of the 100-yard mark this season, having tallied 178, 111 and 106 yards against Ole Miss, Austin-Peay and South Carolina, respectively.

Matthews has drawn double teaming essentially since the season began, in part due to the absence of teammate Chris Boyd, Vandy's other outstanding receiver who was dismissed from the team last week. Still, Matthews, a senior, is having a standout season and should eclipse the 500-yard receiving mark for the season next week against UAB.
