Mike Jenkins likely to miss entire Cowboys preseason

The Dallas Cowboys look like they'll be forced to take the wait-and-see approach with cornerback Mike Jenkins.

After returning from a visit to Dr. James Andrews in Florida for a checkup on his surgically repaired shoulder, Jenkins essentially ruled out playing in the preseason and provided no guarantees for Week 1.

"The opener is what we are looking at, but I don't know," Jenkins said after practice Tuesday, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I'm not quite sure ... maybe once we get my final clearance."

Jenkins has range of motion back in the shoulder, but is lacking the strength necessary to return to the field. Jenkins' absence is particularly troublesome with rookie cornerback Morris Claiborne sidelined with a sprained knee.

"The timetable they have given him is at least a couple more weeks before he goes back to see Dr. Andrews again," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "So the big thing for Jenks is to continue to get his rehab done, continue to get his conditioning done and try to inch the process along as quickly as he can and, hopefully, Dr. Andrews will clear him to come out to practice and he will be a big part of what we are doing."

Complicating matters is a scheduled position switch for Jenkins, who will move from corner to inside slot this season. It's an unfamiliar role for Jenkins, who won't have the benefit of preseason games to get acclimated.
